Same Day Surgery

This surgery has been designed for single problems that cannot wait for the next available pre-bookable appointment. You can either phone or book these on line. We also now offer the option of a doctor ringing you back to see if the problem can be sorted out on the phone saving you a trip to the surgery.

Additional Information

This same day (sit & wait) surgery "late morning" takes place every working day and is designed for any patient with a single problem that they feel will not wait until the next pre-bookable appointment. This surgery is shared between the duty doctors, so you will not be able to choose which doctor you see, with one exception (see below). Because the surgery is designed for a single issue, the consultation is focused on that one issue; we ask that patients book a routine (pre-bookable) appointment for other issues, so that they & we can concentrate on the single problem which will not wait. We need to work as a partnership with you, so by offering a same day access surgery at the end of the booked appointments, we are prepared to work long and hard to help our patients, therefore we expect our patients to take time off work/school in such situations if they feel that their problem will not wait. If you have a problem of a more intimate nature (e.g. a woman's health issue; a men's health issue) then you may request that you would prefer to see a doctor of the same sex as you & where possible we will try to accommodate your wishes. This also applies to patients wishing Emergency Hormonal Contraception (also called the "Morning After Pill") as not all partners give this.

A small number of "urgent" appointments are available each afternoon (times vary) for medical conditions which have arisen after the end of the same day surgery, but will not wait until the next working day. When we can, we will try to speak to you on the phone to see if your problem can be resolved without you needing to come in that evening's surgery; these urgent appointments in the evening should not be used for a non urgent problem simply because it is more convenient than attending at other times.
